AGENCY DESCRIPTION
The Iowa County Health Department is a Medicare certified home health agency, able to bill Medicare, Medicaid, Grants, and other third party payers for qualified home visits. A sliding fee scale, based upon monthly household income, determines the cost per visit for private pay clients.

The Iowa County Health Department is governed by the Iowa County Board of Health comprised of five members. The members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and they serve 3 year terms. One member must be a physician. The Board of Health usually meets the third Wednesday, of the odd months, but no less than quarterly. At least one meeting is a conjoint meeting with the Advisory Committee. A quorum shall be three members or more.

An Advisory Committee, made up of five members appointed by the Board of Health meets quarterly. At least one meeting is a conjoint meeting with the Board of Health. Members are selected from businesses and the community.

SERVICES AVAILABLE

In-Home Services
Skilled Nursing Visits – A hospital or doctors referral is needed before initial visit is made. These visits may consist of:
Setting up medications

Assisting with dressing changes

Teaching how to manage ostomy cares

Monitoring health condition after a hospital stay

Diabetic Teaching

Any other skilled nursing functions

These visits may be billed to Medicare, Medicaid, grants, private insurance or sliding fee scale.

Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy We contract with Eastern Iowa Therapeutics to provide these services as ordered by the doctor
Home Health Aide Visits – Assists clients with personal cares. These visits may be billed to Medicare, Medicaid, grants, private insurance or by sliding fee scale, depending on certain criteria.

Homemaker Visits
This service consists of cleaning, laundry, running errands and meal prep to help clients stay in their homes and to assist family members who are caring for their loved ones. Anyone may request these services, no doctor’s referral is needed. Homemaker visits are billed according to a sliding fee scale.

Health Promotion Clinic Services
Blood Pressure Clinics – Regular blood pressure clinics are held at the congregate meal sites throughout the county.
 
Flu Shot Clinics – These clinics are held each fall at various locations throughout the county.
 
Immunization Clinics – Immunizations are available for those who are VFC (Vaccine For Children) eligible. VFC eligible children are age 0-18 years old who are enrolled in Medicaid, uninsured, underinsured, or American Indian/Alaskan Native. These clinics are held at the Health Department Office twice each month.
